Chris Brown hits No. 1, post-meltdown, with ‘FAME’ album

Author: admin  //  Category: best actor actress

Chris Brown hits No. 1, post meltdown, with FAME album Like the adage about bad publicity, RB singer Chris Brown proves that  there’s also no such thing as a bad meltdown on  national TV as long as they spell your name correctly and plug your new album.

That album, “F.A.M.E.,” entered the Billboard Top 200 Albums chart at No. 1 with first-week sales of 270,000 copies, the second highest total of the year, despite — or perhaps partly because of – the singer’s tirade after ABC-TV’s “Good Morning America” host Robin Roberts asked him about his assault on former girlfriend Rihanna rather than limiting their discussion to the album.

It gives Brown his first No. 1 on the national album chart, although its initial-week sales total is slightly down from his 2007 high of 294,000 for “Exclusive,” which peaked at No. 4 in Billboard.

A day after his angry outburst, Brown told the BET Channel’s “106 Park” show, “I felt like they told us this just so they could get us on the show to exploit me. That’s what I thought. So I kind of took it very, very hard. And I kept my composure throughout the interview, although you could see me upset, you know. I kept my composure and did my performances, and when I got back, I just let off, like, steam in the back … I just had to release the anger that I had inside me, because I felt like I worked so hard for this music.”

Brown’s appearance Tuesday on ABC’s “Dancing With the Stars” helped the show take the night’s TV rating contest, although some participants expressed disappointment that the show had invited him on in light of the 2009 domestic violence case.

Coming in well behind Brown in the No. 2 spot on this week’s chart is Jennifer Hudson’s latest, “I Remember Me,” which was overseen by veteran music mogul Clive Davis. It sold 165,000 copies.

Among four new titles in the top 5 this week are the Strokes’ “Angles,” which debuted at No. 4 on first week sales of 89,000 copies, close behind Adele’s “21,” which remained strong at No. 3 on sales of 96,000 copies. Adele’s album still holds the lead for 2011 in first-week sales, with an initial total of 352,000. Gospel artist Kirk Franklin’s “Hello Fear” entered at No. 5, with sales of 87,000, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

On the singles front, Katy Perry’s “E.T.” with Kanye West has climbed to the No. 1 spot, making it her fourth chart-topping single from her “Teenage Dream” album, which also hit No. 1 last summer upon its release. Billboard notes that it’s the first album to put four singles at No. 1 since Usher’s “Confessions” accomplished that feat in 2004, and it’s only the ninth album to do so in the chart’s 52-year history.

Ekta to launch song of Shor In The City on TV

Author: admin  //  Category: best actor actress

The small screen is certainly getting bigger. And TV czarina Ekta Kapoor knows how to come up with a novel promotional blitzkrieg. She is all set to take movie marketing a step further by launching the first song of her upcoming film Shor In The City on her popular daily soap Pavitra

Rishta. The romantic love ballad, Saibo, will be launched on the March 31 episode.

“It’s going to be an innovative and clutter-breaking step. Usually, press conferences are organised to launch a film’s music but since Ekta is the producer of both Shor In The City and Pavitra Rishta, we thought, ‘why not use the TV show to launch our song,’” says Tanuj Garg, CEO, Balaji Motion Pictures.

6ccc1 tussharkapoor Ekta to launch song of Shor In The City on TVFilm songs are regularly used in daily soaps, but its for the first time that a new song of an upcoming film will be launched on a TV show before the movie’s official launch. The song will be used in a dream sequence pictured on the show’s leads, Manav and Archana.

Pavitra Rishta is the top daily soap right now with TRP of four plus. It will help us reach an unimaginable number of people directly. And it’s not going to be a forced assimilation. Since Manav and Archana are lovebirds, the love number is going to be a seamless integration,” says Garg.

Balaji Motion Pictures’ Shor in the City is an edgy and dark comedy revolving around stars like Tusshar Kapoor, Sendhil Ramamurthy, Preeti Desai, Radhika Apte and Nikhil Diwedi in three loosely interconnected stories set in the midst of the noise and grime of a metropolitan.

“I don’t think we are missing out on press coverage because audiences too notice if makers are coming up with new promotion mantras. I am sure it’s going to work because it’s a fresh idea to launch a song on a top national TV show,” concludes Garg.

What happened to live rock music on TV?

Author: admin  //  Category: best actor actress

Rock music on TV has a long history, starting with “American Bandstand,” which ran from 1952 to 1989, and in the 1960s shows like “Hullabaloo” and “Shindig” had the biggest bands, groups like the Beatles, James Brown, the Rolling Stones and the Who were on every week. In the 1970s “The Midnight Special” had the likes of ABBA, Linda Ronstadt, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Marvin Gaye, Billy Joel, Aretha Franklin, David Bowie, The New York Dolls, and Fleetwood
Mac.

Music Television” started nearly 30 years ago, so if you’re old enough to remember when MTV regularly played music videos, you’re pretty old. Those earlier music shows were once-a-week affairs, but MTV played music videos 24 hours a day. Can someone explain why MTV and its offspring VH1, no longer program music in their prime-time schedules? Maybe because music isn’t interesting enough to garner significant ratings; that, or am I missing something?

I’d like to believe that new music is still important enough to warrant a mainstream presence. “American Idol” is as good as it gets, and it’s great for singers, but what about musicians? And what about the bands that can actually write new music? Why can’t we see more of that sort of thing on MTV?

Yes, there was a show called “The Next Great American Band,” but it only lasted one season. I don’t know why it bombed, but on that show the bands didn’t play their own music. I suppose “American Idol” and “Glee” are what has become of music on mainstream TV.

For me, the best music shows were “Sunday Night,” hosted by David Sanborn and “Sessions at West 54th.” Both shows featured real, live musicians who actually played and sang! They showcased everybody from Eric Clapton to Sonny Rollins, Sting, Al Green, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Carlos Santana, Elvis Costello, John Hiatt, Lucinda Williams, Patti Smith, Miles Davis, and Dizzy Gillespie.

Where on TV can you now find musicians of that caliber playing live? “Saturday Night Live” and the late-night talk shows, but I have to ask, why isn’t MTV doing live music shows?
